We Google it, put a post up on Facebook asking our friends, make phone calls sometimes all three.
When it comes to buying home furniture, you might type, "discount home furniture" or "furniture store INSERT LOCAL AREA" (ie. Monmouth County), into a search engine.
Then what? Google gives us a massive list of options to choose from or our friends chime in with their recommendations. Choices, choices, everywhere!
Now what? It's time to dive into the options that have been presented to us. In the case of finding home furniture, we recommend narrowing down your search to two stores then visiting their local showrooms. After your visits, you'll have a better idea of furniture that's budget-friendly and best for you.
Buying furniture online is convenient, but there's nothing like being able to see products in person and being able to try them out: bounce around on a couch or mattress, have a seat in a kitchen chair, and check out the depth of a dresser drawer.
What to Ask a Furniture Sales Representative During Your Showroom Visit
Sales reps should be like encyclopedias (filled with facts and information) when it comes to the products and services they sell; they should be able to offer recommendations on popular brands and quality products at affordable prices along with much more.
- Ask about clearance and close out items (this is where you can save the most money sometimes). For various reasons such as overstock, lack of customer interest, or a manufacturer discontinuation, furniture stores drastically drop prices on select pieces. Any sales rep should be able to tell you what those pieces are and how much they cost.
- Let them know what your budget is and needs are and ask them to show you around. More expensive does not always mean better. Consider a sales rep your personal tour guide and have fun with this; getting new furniture for the home can be exciting!
We had a customer who came in looking to purchase a mattress. She liked mattress B better than mattress A. They were both good mattresses. Mattress B was $500 over her budget and was a better mattress for double occupancy. For the next few years, she would be the only person using the mattress so while she liked mattress B better, based on her needs at the time, mattress A would work well.
- Find comparable pieces from other brands. This is also something a sales rep can help you with. You might be in love with an Aico Furniture Sofa but can find a similar sofa that's half the price by Ashley Furniture.
